Perhaps the biggest leap in my hybridizing program took place this year in the purples...using MARY"S BABY, HEARTBEAT OF HEAVEN, BORN TO REIGN, VATICAN CITY, SHAKA ZULU, SELF DETERMINATION, LINDA BECK and several other good/interesting parents over the past couple of years has begun to payoff...my own T08-01 (REGAL BRAID x MARY'S BABY) is proving to be a great plant and hybridizing parent, too.
T08-01 (REGAL BRAID X MARY'S BABY) - 28", 5.75", 3 laterals, fertile both ways, excellent increase, semi-evergreen - color is a violet purple with a darker royal purple eye and picotee edge of the same royal purple inside the white outer border. Very ruffled and reflexed...this will be a 2012 introduction.
T08-01 X M Lyons T08-02 - I made a long cross of these 2 good purples - 3 of the better seedlings are shown below...

T08-01 X M Lyons T08-02
HEARTBEAT OF HEAVEN x MARY'S BABY - I was hoping for a little more 'fancy' in the blooms but the color is everything I could ask for...
HEARTBEAT OF HEAVEN X MARY'S BABY - well, I got the 'fancy' in this one and also got hangups - virtually every bloom has to be 'released' - arrrrgggghhhh!
LINDA BECK X SELF DETERMINATION - very nice color combination with the promise of an excellent scape once it gets a chance to show what it can do when I move it out of the shaded area it is now growing in...
LOCH LOMOND LILAC X MARY'S BABY - 6.5" bloom on a 28 scape, 3 laterals...not really a purple, but not a lilac color either
LINDA BECK x FIRST CRUSH - once again, here's a cross that my buddy Richard Norris would likely just shake his head and wonder what the heck I was doing...but it worked! Richard's FIRST CRUSH is proving to be able to be used with purples and reds to produce very exciting seedlings with good ruffling and clean colors...
JERRY HYATT X PRECIOUS CANDY - seeds for this cross came from my good friend Dan Robarts...what an amazing bloom at 7.5 inches - the colors are rich and saturated and the washed eye takes up fully 1/2 of the bloom...
T08-01 X JERRY HYATT - JH lightened the eyezone of T08-01 and gave triangular form to the blooms, while the rich saturated color and ruffling of T08-01 stayed in the petals...
FORESTLAKE RAGAMUFFIN x PLAYING WITH SHARKS - I would never, never have predicted this - I was going for toothy edges from these 2 parents yet, 3 of the seedlings from this fairly long cross produced nice purple colors - below is the best of the 3...this one will be used in my toothy lines next year, even though it show not teeth on the edge...
