2010 Summer Seedlings - Tetraploid Pinks

I didn't have a PINK section last year but the large number of interesting pink flowers this year meant that I had to create a section for them.

As mentioned in the overview section, PRELUDE TO PANOPLY is proving to be a very good  parent for large, dormant daylilies in all colors and even in the eyed and edged category.  Strangely, though PTP is basically pod sterile, the few seedlings that I've gotten from it as a pod parent are very fertile.  Here are a few PRELUDE TO PANOPLY pink seedlings and some other pinks...

T06-01 x PRELUDE TO PANOPLY - 7" blooms on a 32" tall scape, 3 laterals, excellent substance, fertile, pinching in the throat, wonderful color...this one was a star in the 2009 seedling bed...

PRELUDE TO PANOPLY x FORESTLAKE RAGAMUFFIN - not at all what I expected from this cross - no teeth at all - but it's so rare to get PTP to set pods that I'll certainly use this easily fertile plant as a parent in my toothy program.  6.5" blooms on a 30" scape, 3 laterals, very heavy substance (the often used 'credit card like substance' would apply here!), instant rebloom.

ISLE OF MAN x PRELUDE TO PANOPLY - 6.5" blooms on a 30" scape, 2 laterals, needs heat to open well due to exceptionally thick substance, fertile

MANDALAY BAY MUSIC x PRELUDE TO PANOPLY (1) - 6.5" blooms on a 25" scape, 2 laterals, easily fertile both ways...substance isn't what I've come to expect from PTP seedlings but still good

MANDALAY BAY MUSIC x PRELUDE TO PANOPLY (2) - 7" blooms on a 28" scape, 2 laterals, rebloom, easily fertile both ways...almost a near white but still has a good pink overlay on the petals, petals are almost as wide as they are long.

BELLE OF ASHWOOD x PRELUDE TO PANOPLY - 6" blooms on a 30" scape, 3 laterals, instant rebloom, excellent substance, wonderful color, blunt sepals, not as fancy as I expected the flowers to be from this cross but still pretty.

OTHER PINKS

BRAIDED EDGINGS x UNKNOWN (likely MARDI GRAS BEADS) - certainly the most ruffled daylily I've ever hybridized, it also has some of the heaviest substance I've ever noted on a daylily but it still opens perfectly every morning...short at 23", the scape has 2 laterals and about 20 buds...easy fertility both ways and very vigorous here...heavily diamond dusted petals, beautiful bubblegum pink color.

AUGUST WEDDING x BELLE OF ASHWOOD - this ruffled beauty is a 1st year seedling in the 2009 bed - 6" blooms on a 28" scape with 2 laterals and instant rebloom

BELLE OF ASHWOOD x UNKNOWN (likely HEARTBEAT OF HEAVEN) - 6.5" blooms on a 30" scape, 4 laterals, instant rebloom, strange color...sort of between pink and lilac, fertile both ways...

NORTHERN DAWN X (GREAT WHITE x NORDIC MIST) -  Phil Korth's NORTHERN DAWN is a beast of a plant here with great habit - I wanted to get a little more size in the seedling blooms so I crossed it with a 7" GW x NM seedling of mine - didn't expect the subtle edge/no eye result but am very happy with it.

BORDELLO QUEEN x T06-01 - once again, T06-01 genetics come through adding size and ruffling to the resulting seedlings - 6" blooms on a 28" scape, 3 laterals (of course, great scapes from BQ), fertile...

CLARITY OF VISION x THE TRIBBLE WITH BLUE (Derrow 2011 registration) - again, not the results I expected...no idea where the pink came from with these 2 parents...6.5" blooms on a 27" scape, 2 laterals, instant rebloom

GONE FISHING x IT IS FINISHED 1 & 2 - I had some concerns with this cross due to both being evergreen here, but the seedlings from it 'seem' to be easily hardy here and many are quite beautiful...#1 has 6.5" blooms on a 30" scape, 2 laterals...#2 has 6" blooms on a 28" scape, 1 lateral...

T06-01 x BELLE OF ASHWOOD - 6.5" blooms on a 25" scape, 3 laterals, instant rebloom, perhaps the most beautiful of the T06-01 seedlings that I've bloomed over the last 4 years...opens very flat, despite the excellent substance and heavy edge...this one has it all...

TRULY ANGELIC x WINTER SPRINGS 1 & 2 - both of these sdlgs have 6" blooms on a 28" scape, #1 has 2 laterals, whiel #2 has 3 laterals, both are easily fertile...only 3 seedlings from this cross bloomed this year as 1st year seedlings...but it would be difficult for any of the ones yet to bloom to top these for beauty...

RED CARPET MOMENT x SECRET OF CONTENTMENT - I was positively giddy after spotting this 6.5" beauty - the white edges give a clue as to the clarity of color in the petals and the relaxed, looping ruffles are my favorite style - this cross will get remade to the tune of a hundred or more seeds this winter in the greenhouse...26" scape, 2 laterals...

FIRST CRUSH x SECRET OF CONTENTMENT - 1st year bloom - very beautiful but so far, a very poor plant - the scape is about 16" tall with only 1 lateral - 14 buds...but it's a first year seedling and the parents do well here so I'm hopeful that it's just a matter of the seedling maturing so that the plant habit matches the bloom!
