2010 Summer Seedlings - Tetraploid Eyes and Edges

There were quite a few nice advancements in the eyed and edged seedlings this summer...I've found out that Norris and Emmerich cultivars seem made for each other...there were some outstanding results coming from crosses of Karol's and Richard's intros...Curt Hanson's POINT OF DIVERGENCE is proving to be a wonderful parent for patterned eyes and it's one of the parents of my 2011 intro, THE TRIBBLE WITH BLUE...

PRELUDE TO PANOPLY x CLARIFICATION - 30" scape, 6" blooms, 3 laterals, 26 buds, very strong rebloom (4 sets of scapes this summer), easily fertile both ways (which is amazing as PTP is virtually pod sterile and Clarification is usually a very difficult pod parent for me.)

The left hand photo shows the strong reblooming tendencies of this seedling - there are 3 sets of scapes showing - a 4th set eventually formed and bloomed in late August.

SCOTT BENNETT x BEAUTY OF THE KING - 24", 6" blooms, 2 laterals, some rebloom, triple edge, fertile

HANDWRITING ON THE WALL x CLARITY OF VISION - 6.5" blooms on a 28" scape, 2 laterals - and yes, there's really a sky blue color in one of the bands in the throat...some metallic effects, too...

ETCHED EYES x THE TRIBBLE WITH BLUE 1 & 2 - siblings with very strange eyezones - TRIBBLE cleaned up the yellow in #1, adding a pinkish tone to the petals...the eye is a light lavender with metallic accents...Tribble lightened the yellow of EE in #2 and added a broken, banded eyezone with metallic accents - both are 6" blooms, and both have poor scapes but are crowded 1st year plants so I hope to see more branches and blooms in the future...

NO BLUE OXFORDS x UNKNOWN  (likely, PALACE GARDEN BEAUTY) - 45" scape with 2 laterals, 6.5" blooms, fertile

STORM SHELTER x CLARITY OF VISION - 6.5" blooms on a 28" scape, 2-3 laterals, easy fertility - this stunning beauty was the most used pollen in the garden last year and this past summer...I'm hoping for rebloom now that it has been moved to a decent growing bed...

TRULY ANGELIC x KING OF THE AGES  - 7" blooms (just like KOTA) on a 36" scape, 3 laterals, instant rebloom - very flat face, fertile both ways

FOREVER IN LOVE x HANDWRITING ON THE WALL - Karol Emmerich called this the best seedling face she has seen out of HOTW - 6" blooms on a 27" scape, 2 laterals, instant rebloom - creamy yellow petal color, thin picotee edge and multiple rings of color in the eyezone...I broke a rule of mine to not disturb 1st year seedlings and dug this one out of the growing beds in August to put it in a better spot to try to get it to increase faster...Richard's FOREVER IN LOVE often breaks in to a pattern on rebloom - combining those genetics with HOTW was the key...only 3 of these seedlings bloomed this summer - another 12 or so should bloom next year

HEARTBEAT OF HEAVEN x CLARITY OF VISION - 7" blooms on a 27" scape, 2 laterals

POINT OF DIVERGENCE x TETRA CRYSTAL BLUE PERSUASION - 2 sibs from a cross of about 15 are shown below - the eyezones on both appear to want to break into patterns - blooms open well considering the parentage - petal color is cleaner/lighter than either parent - 22-25" scapes, not much branching but they are 1st year seedlings so am hoping for improvement...

MABEL WINEGAR x JERRY HYATT - 2 siblings from a cross of about 10 seeds shown below - these are some of the most exciting seedlings in the garden this year - they are quite large at 7", there's the promise of branching from MW and the tetra Trahlyta genetics out of JH are really something...

BRAIDED EDGINGS x MULBERRY WAY - 6.5" blooms on a 28" scape, 2 laterals, rebloom - on rebloom, there are often poly blooms...

NO BLUE OXFORDS x DESERT MOON - 6" blooms on a 26" scape, 2 laterals, rebloom

ROCK SOLID x BRAIDED EDGINGS (3) - 5.75" blooms on a 26" scape, 3 laterals, rebloom - very heavy substance...
